Students in action for accessible higher education
The National Student Union and Laks, JOB, FNV-Jong and ROOD will hold a demonstration in The Hague against the debt system and for accessible higher education on Saturday 24 November.

"Students have had enough," says Carline van Breugel, chair of the National Student Union. "They have to go deep into debt to be able to study, they see nothing of the promised investments in education and now the interest on the student loan also increased. Here we draw a line.”
Migration background
According to the student union, education has become less accessible since the introduction of the debt system. Van Breugel: "Fewer students transfer from MBO to HBO, young people whose parents have not studied and young people with a migration background are less likely to study. While education is there to offer everyone equal opportunities."
A student debt means: no mortgage and therefore no buying a house
Due to the debt system, recent graduates can hardly get a mortgage, so they cannot buy a home. Van Breugel: "Politicians must be shaken up and realize that young people are the prospect of our country. Hence this demonstration: give students a future again, away with the debt system and back with the basic grant."
