About the AOb

De AOb is a trade union for educational staff working in primary education, secondary schools, secondary vocational education, colleges and universities. The union is affiliated with the largest employee organization in the Netherlands, the FNV. In 2021, the AOb 25 years, the union was created on January 1, 1997 as a result of a merger between two educational unions: Algemene Bond van Onderwijsd Personeel (ABOP) and Nederlands Genootschap van Leraren (NGL). The board of the AOb consists of four directors who are responsible for the day-to-day management of the union. AObmembers elect the board through the General Assembly.

Regional becomes the AOb represented by five districts. With offices in Groningen, Deventer, Rotterdam and Eindhoven, they are close to schools and members. The head office is located in Utrecht.

De AOb is also committed to good working conditions and high-quality and accessible education outside the Netherlands. The union does this, for example, in developing countries where the quality of education is often too low.
