School must have sum in final exam checked again
A final exam student from the Rientjes Mavo in Maarssen can still get his diploma. Yesterday, the judge ruled in summary proceedings that item 15 of his VMBO-tl mathematics exam must be reviewed by an independent corrector.

The student took his final exam this year, but did not pass his diploma. He required a grade average of at least 5,5 for the central written exam, but scored an average of 5,483. The student's father therefore wanted to see his exams. He came to the conclusion that his son should have been given two points in the math exam for questions 10, 14 and 15, instead of one based on the official correction rule.
Interim injunction
The school, which falls under the Foundation for Secondary Education De Vechtstreek, did not agree with the father's objection about the mathematics problems. The father then filed a lawsuit and was right yesterday in court.
The judge finds that the first and second correctors have acted carefully in assignments 10 and 14. 'The number of points given by the correctors is not incorrect or careless. There is no reason for a reassessment, 'said the judge. In exercise 15, the judge finds that the father is right, because the two correctors did not reach a good agreement there.
Conformity
The first corrector wrote after revision that he would give the student two points instead of one. His colleague, the second proofreader, disagreed and still argued for one point. The judge believes that the school should have ensured that the two correctors would reach agreement on the assessment and, if that was not possible, should have sought a different solution. The school should have taken more initiative to bring about the agreement between the correctors and handle it more carefully.
That is why the judge wants question 15 to be reviewed again within five days. This time by a third independent proofreader who will appoint the inspection. Rob van Oevelen, rector director of the Rientjes Mavo and Broklede, says that the mathematics exam is already at the Board for Tests and Exams. “It is now about the student. He must get clarity as soon as possible. We will not appeal against the decision. ” Van Oevelen is surprised about the court's decision. "We felt that we had followed all guidelines properly."
