Math exam MBO does not count towards diploma until years later
The mark that MBO students get for their math exam will only count towards their diploma in 2020-2021. That is a year later than the Ministry of Education previously proposed. Schools need more time for all preparations for the math tests.

In November last year, education minister Ingrid van Engelshoven made together with minister Arie Slob known that the math tests become part of the school exams and count towards the diploma at all school levels. Schools are allowed to organize the course themselves and determine how many test moments they enter.
For MBO students, the scores for arithmetic would initially count towards their diploma from 2019-2020. Way too early, find various educational organizations, such as the MBO Council, which represents the MBO schools, and the student organization JOB. In this way, schools get too little time for developing math exams, educating students and the risk of errors in exams and diploma decisions is high.
Challenge
Van Engelshoven is now responding to the concerns of the organizations. "The challenge facing MBO is considerable," said the minister her letter to the House of Representatives. That is why she will introduce the math exam from 2019-2020 and students already take a math test in that school year, but those results do not count that year. The arithmetic test will only be part of the pass-fail scheme in MBO in 2020-2021.
The minister's decision ensures that, from school year 2020-2021, pupils and students - both in secondary education and in MBO - will receive a diploma that includes the subject of arithmetic.
