Record number of first-years in higher professional education
A record number of young people have registered for a higher vocational education this school year. The universities of applied sciences currently count 7 percent more first-years than this time last year.

These are many more 'pre-registrations' than last year, according to the Association of Universities of Applied Sciences. Teacher training programs in particular are growing fast: they are currently reporting 15 percent more first-years. Most likely choose more people for the teacher training college.
In addition to teacher training, healthcare (7 percent) and behavior & society (11 percent) are also seeing an increase in the number of first-years. Technical training programs are able to benefit the least and are currently achieving growth of 2 percent.

The final counts are not until October 1. Then it will become clear how many students have fully completed their registration, with authorization for tuition fees and all. The 'pre-registrations' do give a good indication of the trend.
The universities of applied sciences currently have more than 118 thousand registrations for four-year bachelor's programs and more than 9 thousand for the two-year associate degrees. This is an increase of 16 percent for the two-year programs.
Several thousand of these freshmen will still drop out, for whatever reason. Last year, a total of 119 thousand students had registered at the beginning of September, of whom more than 11 thousand ultimately did not complete their registration.

The bachelor's programs at the universities were more than 7 percent in the plus at the beginning of August. That is the most recent public figure.
