LVO pays compensation to exam students
More than a hundred exam students who were the victims of the final exam debacle at VMBO Maastricht, part of the Limburg Secondary Education (LVO) school board, will receive compensation from the school. This is a compensation of one thousand euros per person.
This confirms lawyer Wouter Geertsen, who assisted 113 students. In addition, eight students with legal assistance insurance from Arag receive the compensation. Only these students who worked together with the law firm and the legal expenses insurance will receive the compensation.
Material and immaterial damage
The compensation is for both “material and immaterial damage”, says Geertsen. For example, students had already booked a holiday or missed income from side jobs because the Education Inspectorate declared the final exams invalid in June last year of 354 students.
Major mistakes had been made by the school during the school exams, which pre-vocational secondary education students already take during the school year. For example, there were holes in the administration, tests had not been administered and students were actually not even allowed to take their final exams because parts were missing.
It ensured that students had to start again with their school exams. Some of them therefore demanded compensation. They now receive this after consultation with the LVO school board, which includes VMBO Maastricht.
Education money
Lawyer Geertsen says that LVO does not spend any education money on the compensation. "This is paid for by the school board's insurance." A large part of the students have already received the compensation, according to the lawyer.
