Half of the Dutch want more money for education salaries
Slightly more than half of the Dutch (52 percent) want money from the budget surplus to go to the salaries of education staff, healthcare and the police. This is evident from a poll by Ipsos on behalf of NOS today.

The research office sounded for the news organization where the Dutch want the money to go to in connection with Prinsjesdag. Today, the Minister of Finance, Wopke Hoekstra, presented the briefcase containing the Budget Memorandum and the National Budget to the House of Representatives. In the Ridderzaal, the king reads the speech from the throne containing the cabinet's plans for the coming year.
To wish
With 52 percent, salaries in education, healthcare and the public sector are at the top of the wish list of the Dutch. After that, most people, at 36 percent, want the money from the budget surplus to go to more police on the streets and to building more homes. About 32 percent want Minister Hoekstra to further repay the national debt with the money. The Dutch are less enthusiastic about the construction of extra roads: 6 percent think that the money should go there.

Ipsos calls education a theme that is 'on the rise'. More people consider this to be an important issue, as does the climate, although this is especially the case among highly educated people. The theme of immigration and integration is much less of a priority than last year.
'Invest in education'
Also the AOb knows a destination for the money from the budget surplus. The union has been calling on the cabinet for months to invest extra in education. The salaries of the staff must be increased and the workload reduced to make the profession more attractive. The union drew attention to this by means of a video and an animation.
