Conflict about extra working hours is looming at school group in Venlo
There is a threat of a conflict between the Executive Board and teachers at the Venlo & Surroundings Education Community (OGVO). The board plans teachers with 750 clock hours of lessons structurally more than the agreement of 730 clock hours. The AOb therefore holds a class-time meeting on 23 October to discuss next steps.

“The staff is done with it. Consultation outside working hours is of no benefit, ”says AOb-rayon manager Perry van Liempt.
There are teachers at OGVO, a school group with three secondary schools since the beginning of this school year scheduled for 750 clock hours of lessons per year instead of 730 clock hours. Earlier on said Peter Badoux, chairman of the board of OGVO, that he had to take this measure due to the financial situation and that something is being asked of everyone.
AObdistrict manager Perry van Liempt consulted about the measure from January to August 2018, but the board nevertheless continued the new task policy at the start of the school year. Van Liempt likes AObmembers have seen task letters at the schools showing that agreements are not being fulfilled on a large scale. “Teachers who make use of the former bapo scheme (arrangement to keep older lecturers permanently employed) are also overused,” says Van Liempt. “The same goes for starting teachers. The board has a hole in the budget. That is why they let teachers work more hours, so that less staff is needed.”
Dropout
Driver Badoux left earlier know that in practice, teachers will still teach 730 clock hours because lessons often drop out. AObdistrict manager Van Liempt: “Once again, financial problems are being passed on to teachers. We want to put a stop to this. ”
The meeting that the AOb holding an entire morning together with CNV is necessary because the unions have not yet come to an agreement with the board. “We are going to look at the next steps,” says Van Liempt. “The staff is done with it, because it is not the first time it has happened. We want to show that the measure is full. There is a possibility for a second meeting during class time and striking can also be an option, but we all have to look at that.”
Disappointed
In a letter to the staff, director Badoux stated that he was disappointed with the members' meeting. According to him, it causes organizational problems because lessons are canceled and the school has to arrange childcare. The board president wants to look for a solution and writes in his letter that this is a temporary measure. 'To get out of this situation, two parties are needed who want to reach a constructive solution. I can indicate that there is this willingness on my part, 'said the chairman of the board.
The chairman of the board also announces that the salary will be withheld. Members of the AOb get that back.
