Collective labor agreement for secondary education will only follow after a new cabinet
It will only be possible to conclude a new collective labor agreement for secondary education in the autumn, provided there is a new cabinet. According to the trade unions and employers, extra money from The Hague is needed.
The collective labor agreement for secondary education expired on 1 January. The talks for a new collective labor agreement have been suspended because, according to the AOb, the other unions and the Secondary Education Council structurally extra money is needed for secondary education. “We had hoped that a new cabinet would take office before the summer holidays to tackle this,” says AOb-driver Henrik de Moel. "But unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case."
This is not a lost year for the development of your salary
Earlier this year, the education unions and the secondary education council made an urgent appeal to the future cabinet to invest in secondary education. Investments must ensure that the quality of education improves and that inequality of opportunity decreases. Lecturers must be given more time and professional space and the workload must be reduced.

The current collective labor agreement is tacitly renewed and will run until the end of this calendar year. All agreements from this collective labor agreement therefore still apply to all teaching staff. “It is not that this is a wasted year for the development of wages,” says De Moel. “We will certainly make agreements about this in the negotiations for the new collective labor agreement. Perhaps by raising our wage requirement for 2022, or by enforcing a wage increase for 2021 with retroactive effect. We will keep our members informed about the developments.”
