Agreement: HBO and MBO will improve throughput
Universities of applied sciences will help MBO students prepare for the jump to higher education. Vocational education programs themselves will also pay more attention to it, they promise.
Yesterday, the umbrella associations of MBO and HBO decided to do this a covenant signed, in the presence of education minister Van Engelshoven. They want to improve throughput, they promise.
Ambiance
In MBO there are already many elective courses ('elective parts') to help students make the transition to HBO, but the universities of applied sciences now promise that they will use “people and resources” for this. The MBO students are allowed to come to the university of applied sciences for their electives, so that they can already taste the atmosphere.

Dropout
About one in three first-year HBO students comes from MBO. The transition is not easy: more than 20 percent drop out in the first year of study. The first XNUMX days are crucial in this regard.
It is now difficult to say how well such electives help. That is why the universities of applied sciences will share figures and analyzes about study success with MBO, they promise. To this end, they want to obtain better data about the throughput from the Ministry of Education.
