De AOb represents the interests of people working at universities and research institutions. Until January, the VAWO - the trade union for science - did that, but our merger has made us stronger. Together with our representatives at universities, we work on a healthy and safe working environment.
First, we are there for our members. Where necessary, we assist them with good legal advice, we listen to what is going on at universities and research institutions and we listen to what our members consider important. Health and science is not union or university, it belongs to all of us and we can only achieve it if we work together on it.
Subjects such as social security, the high publication pressure, diversity, reducing the high workload, but also the high number of temporary contracts are important to us. There are many more topics that we are working hard on, such as advocating a different funding model for universities and fair funding of scientific education and research.
Nationally, we advocate these subjects with the minister, MPs and of course the employers. We are in firm negotiations with the Association of Dutch Universities (VSNU) for a good collective labor agreement covering these subjects.
At the universities
Take at university or research institution AObrepresentatives participate in the so-called Local Consultation. It includes the Executive Board and representatives of other trade unions. They work together on the implementation of the collective labor agreement and make agreements about local employment conditions. We are proud of our representatives who are passionate about science and their colleagues. You are always welcome to make an appointment with them for a cup of coffee or tea. Go to the overview.
In addition, the AOb in co-operation. Together with various organizations, including WOinA Actie, the Promovendi Netwerk Nederland (PNN) and the National Network of Women Professors (LNVH), we are working together to raise awareness and improve situations.
And of course we are there for our members. Where necessary, we assist them with good legal advice. We also like to listen to what our members consider important. Health and science does not belong to the union, or to a university, it belongs to all of us and we can only achieve that if we work together on it.
