Two percent wage increase plus one-off 880 euros for the new collective labor agreement for HBO
All employees in higher professional education will receive 880 euros in November and a wage increase of 2 percent from February next year. That is the negotiated result of the trade unions and employers, which will be presented to members next week.

The one-off payment of 880 euros in November is gross and in proportion to the employment. The wage increase of two percent will take effect on February 1, 2022. "This is then a wage increase of two percent over, in total, a period of fifteen months," says AOb- director Douwe van der Zweep. “That percentage is in line with the collective labor agreements in MBO and universities.”
Rising pension contributions were a difficult point in the collective labor agreement negotiations. Those premiums will increase this year and next year, at the expense of the wage margin. Van der Zweep: “In the end we arrived at a percentage that everyone can live with.”

It has also been agreed that employee participation councils in the universities of applied sciences will update the existing workload plans. “Those plans date from before corona,” says Van der Zweep. “So the fact that more and more people work online have not been taken into account.”

The new workload plans must contain agreements on matters such as the availability of workplaces for online working, the number of hours of computer work and the right to inaccessibility. Van der Zweep: “If you're not careful, work will go on all day long via email, app and Teams or Zoom. That is not the intention."

The participation councils will also test whether the HBO employers give their staff realistic task assignments. Which means that people should be given enough time and resources to perform their tasks.
Finally, the parties to the collective labor agreement will examine arrangements before 1 April 2022 to properly guide new employees and relieve their workload, and to enable older employees to reach the state pension age in a healthy way.
