One of the former top executives of PO in Actie, Thijs Roovers, is a candidate for the day-to-day management of the AOb. “I am really looking forward to it and I am calling on every teacher to become a member of the AOb to become."

Who could have thought that, in 2017? When Thijs Roovers and Jan van de Ven founded PO in Actie? That this Thijs Roovers will probably join the executive board of the AOb?
Because in the beginning it rubbed hard, between PO in Actie and the AOb. “PO in Actie was the result of anger, among other things about the low salaries in primary education,” says Roovers. “We heard many justified complaints about this at our schools, at the coffee tables. And we were angry that those complaints were not picked up where we think they should: at the table of the existing trade unions and politicians. ”
All parties go along with the crowd, the only one who takes responsibility is the AOb
PO in Actie and the AOb already knew each other easy to find, and together organized several successful ones strikes. As a result, the low salaries - and in particular the salary gap between primary school teachers and their colleagues in secondary education - are now firmly on the political agenda.
Pattern
Roovers entered the AOb increasingly appreciate. He decided to join when the AOb took responsibility after an unfortunate shutdown covenant, against which the members gathered. “I started to see a pattern,” Roovers says now. “All parties are joining the crowd, because there were a lot of signatures under that covenant, but the only party that takes its responsibility is AOb. That is also the only association that communicates openly and honestly with its supporters. ”
Beautiful profession
In the book Teacher, dare to claim - how we reclaim our beautiful profession together, Roovers (together with Jan van de Ven) writes: Teachers, unite, and if you choose a union, choose the AOb. "That is the only union there is."

The General Meeting of the AOb decide on June 18 about the appointment of Roovers. There are no other candidates after a review procedure. If the General Meeting is positive, Roovers can start on 1 August in the day-to-day management of the AOb.
Second
This executive board consists of five people and is part of the main board. The central board divides the tasks among themselves, including the chairperson's role. Does Roovers consider himself in the race for that position? “I seriously haven't thought about it for a second. I see membership of the executive board in itself as the perfect job at the perfect club. I bring a whole lot of enthusiasm and I am really looking forward to it.
