Pabo student is again given a postponement for admission tests
PAB students will be given another postponement for their entrance tests in the coming school year. Instead of beforehand, they only have to obtain this before 1 January of the current academic year. The Covid-19 pandemic made this option available for the first time in 2020. Including the delay, about 80 percent eventually met the requirements, slightly more than in the year before when there was no corona.

Admission tests are often taken at teacher training colleges themselves and prospective students are not allowed to take them for covid-related complaints. To give them a fair chance, this group could already start at the teacher training college and pass the tests no later than 1 January 2021.
That has not been for nothing, according to figures from the Association of Universities of Applied Sciences (VH). In the 2019-2020 school year, 77 percent of prospective students passed their entrance tests 'in front of the gate', compared to 50 percent last summer. About 30 percent passed the tests after they had already started their studies. Added together, this percentage is 80, slightly higher than in the pre-corona year 2019-2020.

The VH does keep a close eye on the figures. The association requested the results of the admission tests from the teacher training colleges to which 17 of the 24 institutions responded. Spokesperson Eva Kloosterman: “We do not yet know the numbers of a few large teacher training colleges. It therefore remains an estimate. ”
Of the 17 teacher training institutions that shared grades, 12 percent did not pass the admission tests during the first period at the teacher training college, according to the VH. They had to stop the study as of January 1, 2021. One third of them came from HAVO, two thirds from MBO. Eight percent of the assessors dropped out of the program for another reason.
Get to work
Anyone who wants to go to teacher training without a VWO, HAVO or HBO diploma must prove that they have mastered geography, history and nature and technology at HAVO level since August 2015. Since there is no HAVO final exam profile with all three subjects, HAVO students have often taken one or two admission tests since 2015. MBO students who want to go to teacher training college often still have to work in all three fields.
Start with a clean slate at the teacher training college
This year too, PABO starters will again have the opportunity to start the PABO without the official starting permit. They may start their studies on 1 September 2021, but must pass the tests by 31 December 2021 at the latest.
Despite the option, the VH is firmly in favor of completing the admission tests before September next. The figures from the teacher training colleges show that students who complete the tests before the gate earn 'more to considerably more' credits than the students who had to take admission tests afterwards. Kloosterman: “Our advice: start with a clean slate at the teacher training college. That benefits your study success and learning results. "
