AOb deploy mobile rehab against temporary contracts
AOb-chairman Tamar van Gelder kicked off the week of action against temporary contracts today at Domplein in Utrecht. “Education administrators are addicted to flexible work.”
"Many education administrators break out in a clammy sweat at the thought of giving people a permanent contract. They are addicted to flex. Fortunately, we are now offering help." That says AOb-chairman Tamar van Gelder today at the start of the 'week against flex addiction'.
A flex job does not provide any security. That is bad for a good night's sleep and bad for the quality of education
This week the AOb across the country with the Whattheflex-bus. At each institution, a 'self-help book against flex addiction' is offered to the board, this first day to Utrecht University president Anton Pijpers.
De AOb protests this week against the fact that more and more people in education and science are getting a temporary contract. The number of temporary contracts in primary education has risen to record high, in secondary vocational education one in five teachers now have a temporary contract and in science some researchers and teachers have to for twelve years string together temporary contracts.
“Such a flexible job offers teachers and support staff no security at all. And that is bad for a good night's sleep and bad for the quality of education. This has to stop,” says Van Gelder.
Rehabilitation clinic
It is a protest action with a wink: the bus belongs to 'rehab Whattheflex'. “Unfortunately, the problem is all too serious,” says Van Gelder. “There are far too many people who have to live from temporary contract to temporary contract. You cannot live in a temporary contract. Flexible work is disastrous for your future plans, your private life and therefore for the quality of the work you can deliver.”
