Appropriate education reserves grew throughout the country

Across the country, the reserves of partnerships for appropriate education grew last year. Three quarters of the SWVs that see their budgets grow in the coming years, had money left over in 2016.

This is evident from figures from DUO that analyzed the Education Magazine. Last Friday became clear that joint ventures (SWVs) together added just under fifty million euros to their reserves last year. The total equity has grown by 31 percent to 206 million euros.

Due to a national redistribution of the support budget for special needs pupils, 78 of the 152 partnerships in primary and secondary education will receive additional funding. The other 74 swvs have to hand in a budget. This settlement will be completed in 2020.

The figures do not show a direct relationship between the equalization and the surpluses in 2016. Partnerships with a positive equalization relatively more often had a plus under the line. But together they did have slightly less than swvs with a negative equalization, especially in primary education.

The story behind the numbers matters, wrote minister Arie Slob at the end of last week in a policy response to the financial annual report in education to the House of Representatives. In his letter, Slob shows understanding for reasons why swvs could save money.

'For example, there are partnerships with a negative equalization and a positive result, which indicate that they are doing this in order to absorb the step-by-step reduction of the budget. On the other hand, there are partnerships with a positive equalization where the number of pupils in (secondary) special education is increasing, who indicate that they are saving to be able to continue to pay for this in the coming years.'

Uit preliminary student grades It recently emerged that special education is growing this year for the first time since the introduction of appropriate education in 2014. Special secondary education is declining slightly.
