VSO boards must apply for an extra salary before October 1
Boards in special secondary education have until 1 October to request an extra salary for teachers who teach in the part of the VSO that leads to a diploma of secondary education. “Check whether your board is indeed making that application, so that you don't miss out on money,” advises AObdriver Jelmer Evers.

In the covenant on the teacher shortage of 1 November 2019, more than 16 million euros has been included for the remuneration of teachers in secondary special education who teach students with an outflow profile for further education. These teachers teach at secondary level, but are paid according to the collective labor agreement for primary education.
Structurally
There is now structural money available to reduce the salary gap for these teachers, but boards must apply for that money annually. “Many boards in the VSO appear not to be aware of this yet,” says AObdirector Jelmer Evers. “I advise our members, whether or not via the participation council, to point out this scheme to their board. Otherwise, as a school – and as a teacher – you miss out on money.”
The trade unions and the PO Council will make an agreement as soon as possible about exactly how the money will be spent.
