The primary education front has been clear all year long in setting its goals: 900 million euros is needed to raise salaries in the sector to a level comparable to that of colleagues in secondary education. In addition, the cabinet must invest 500 million euros to curb the spiraling workload in the sector.
First steps
The first steps towards improvement have been taken at the Binnenhof. The previous cabinet entered an extra 270 million euros for teacher salaries at the very last moment, and Rutte III added a budget of 430 million euros as a new coalition to reduce workload. The PO front is of the opinion that this 700 million euros is too little to really help the sector.
Moreover, the budget for curbing the workload will be released in phases: the coalition has reserved only 10 million euros for this item for next year. According to the organizations in the primary education front, the government thus ignores the problems facing the sector: in primary education, a quarter of the staff are faced with symptoms of burnout.
Only understanding
Good discussions were held with Education Minister Slob in November, including during the meet-up in Afas Live, where the new minister entered into a debate with five hundred teachers, support staff, directors and school administrators from primary education. For the time being, however, the minister cannot offer more than understanding for the grievances.
And so go the actions by. Labor unions AOb, CNV Onderwijs, FNV Overheid and FvOv - naturally with the support of the entire PO front, which also consists of boosters PO in Actie, school leaders' association AVS and employers' organization PO-raad - have sent a strike call to their members or are about to do so. doing. Primary and special education schools across the country will close for a day on December 12.
Not a national event
Unlike the massively attended event In Zuiderpark in The Hague, the primary education front does not have a national meeting this time and teachers are called upon to give substance to the strike day themselves, whether or not as a team. Incidentally, in several cities get-togethers organized by various interest groups from the PO front.

De AOb and FNV Overheid call on their members to register digitally and hold meetings in a number of places in the country. CNV Education has registration points in about thirty cinemas throughout the country and offers its members a free visit to the educational film Wonder. The goal remains the same for everyone: 900 million euros extra for salaries as soon as possible, 500 million euros for workload relief.
