Political support for better salary in education?
The quartets in The Hague has started again. VVD, CDA, D66 and CU are working on a new Coalition Agreement. More money for defense or extra attention for inequality? How do we deal with migration? And it seems like a stepchild: how much money is released for investment in education? The increase in salaries in primary education already amounts to a sloppy 700 million euros.
This week the formation continues, with talks between VVD, CDA, D66 and ChristenUnie. Not the most ideal combination for investment in education, if we look back at the election manifestos. What the four parties promised to spend on a lower workload or better salary differs enormously.
The VVD thought that with an extra 100 million euros, education would be up to scratch, with a little investment in the performance reward. The CDA bet on 200 million euros, the ChristenUnie on 600 million euros. Viewed in this way, D66 is quite alone with 3,8 billion euros. But will that party perhaps get the opportunity from the others to score on education?

Incidentally, D66 emphasized at the beginning of this year AObelection debate that they had plans and budgets for smaller classes and a reduction in workload, but not for better salaries. In short, is there enough support within the new coalition for a plus on salaries in general and for primary education in particular? How much money is it actually?

A fair salary in primary education costs roughly 700 million euros according to the calculation below. It concerns the abolition of the lowest scale (LA) and to make wages in primary education comparable with secondary education of the next (LB) wage scale.
The big question that needs to be answered in the coming weeks is whether there is political support in a new cabinet to make serious efforts to invest in education. The social pressure for this is great, as is clear from the massive participation of schools in tomorrow's campaign PO front. 700 million euros costs equalizing salary primary and secondary education
- In primary education, 60 thousand people now receive scale LA and 31 thousand people on a full-time basis
- We looked at the pay difference per month with LB secondary education in the last, highest scale rule.
- This amounts to 12 months' salary per year, plus holiday pay and year-end bonus, rounded up to 14 times the monthly difference.
- The costs are higher due to employer's contributions, which adds up to 1,5 times the wage difference.
- The effect purely and solely for the education budget is therefore estimated to be over 700 million euros.
