PO front calls on cabinet negotiators: Take note of what is going on in education
The PO front again invites informateur Herman Tjeenk Willink and the negotiators of VVD, CDA, D66 and ChristenUnie to attend the manifestation for more salary and less workload in primary education at Malieveld in The Hague next Tuesday. Despite broad public support for the requirements of the PO front, the parties are not yet giving home.
With more than 275 statements of support, statements of solidarity from parent organizations and a lot of media attention, the primary education front can establish that the campaign for more salary and less workload in primary education is alive in the Netherlands. The parties from the PO front - PO in Actie, AOb, FNV, CNV Education, FvOv, AVS and the PO Council - find it strange, to say the least, that the people who will determine how our country is governed in the coming years do not seem to be aware of the primary education. All the more so because the effects of neglected primary education will in time be felt throughout society.
Deficiencies
If substantial investments are not made in primary education in the coming years, there will be a huge teacher shortage in the sector. Research institute CenterData expects four thousand unfilled full-time jobs at the end of this government's term of office and predicts a shortage of more than ten thousand FTEs before 2025. Unless serious steps are taken to curb the excessive workload and raise the salary to a level that can compete with that of highly educated people elsewhere.
That is why the PO front is calling on Messrs Tjeenk Willink, Rutte, Buma, Pechtold and Segers once again to come to the Malieveld on Tuesday afternoon to at least be aware of the major concerns that are going on in our sector and no later than Friday 23 June at 14.00 p.m. indicate whether they can leave the negotiating table for an hour. The program of the action afternoon is almost complete. At 15.00 p.m., teachers and concerned parents will gather at the Malieveld to support the PO-Front's petition.

16.00 Opening, speakers (Thijs Roovers, Sophie Hilbrand), music (Girls Love DJs)
16.30 pm Presentation of the petition
16.45 Closing, then walk-out with Copycat band
The meeting will be presented by presenter and sports journalist Barbara Barend. Thijs Roovers (PO in Actie) and BNN presenter Sophie Hilbrand offer the signatures on behalf of the PO front.
