Parking permit must bind teachers to Amsterdam
Additional parking permits for teachers are being issued in Amsterdam-Noord. She must keep this for Amsterdam education.
The teacher shortage is felt everywhere. All kinds of solutions are proposed to attract teachers to education. Also in Amsterdam. A large proportion of Amsterdam teachers live outside the city (40 percent) and commute daily to the city by car, among other things. 'One of the bottlenecks that schools encounter is the lack of sufficient parking and the disappearance of (free) parking spaces at schools,' says Rutha Fessehaye, press officer for the municipality of Amsterdam.
Retain
Because the teacher shortage is not just a problem in Amsterdam, it means that teachers who live outside the city will look for a job closer to home if the barriers to coming to Amsterdam become too great. Fessehaye: 'It is very important for the city to retain teachers for the city.'

And one of those obstacles can be parking your car. As a temporary solution, Amsterdam is granting an extra parking permit to the schools in Noord. Instead of one parking permit per five FTE, two permits may now be issued. This temporary solution is intended to provide rapid relief from the teacher shortage problem.
Take away
“We are happy with this”, says Eugenie Stolk, AOb-Director. “It is not paid for by education money, so it is only good if such a physical barrier - not being able to park your car - is removed.”
'Granting an extra permit forever requires an adjustment to the parking regulation. It is not yet clear to what extent permanent permits for schools are in line with the ambitions of the coalition agreement to make the city more car-free," says Fessehaye.
