Education strike started, big march through Rotterdam
The education strike has begun. More than four thousand schools are closed, the teaching staff are shutting down. Their message? More investment for education. In Rotterdam a procession of teachers, support staff and school leaders is walking through the city.

One of the organizers of the march is Else-Marike Visser, primary school teacher who works at Thomas Moore University. "The 460 million euros is not enough. Really structural investments are needed for education. That is why we are marching together with colleagues today."
AObDistrict manager Jan Menger is also taking part in the march to the Excelsior Stadium. He estimates that about four thousand people will participate. "The entire Erasmus Bridge is full," he says. "Cars have to wait and traffic is disrupted." In the procession teachers walk with banners and signs in hand. 'No time to strike', it says on one plate. And 'Minister, come across the bridge now.' A teacher says he hopes the strike day will get a lot of attention, but he thinks that a bag of money on the table is too optimistic.
Closed schools
Today, 4200 schools remain closed in primary, secondary and special education. This is evident from the card on the website of the AOb. The number increased significantly yesterday evening and there are already more than 1600 schools more close than in the previous strike. If your school is closed, report it via our card.
