More influence on financial choices for MBO institutions
Since this year, the MBO works council has more influence on the financial choices of the school board. But what exactly does that mean in practice?

Since this year, senior secondary vocational education boards have required explicit approval when outlining financial policy. This is because works councils have been given the right to consent to the 'main points of the budget'.
It's also about something. In MBO, it concerns a sloppy 4,5 billion euros that the central government transfers to the institutions. By far the largest part of this is in the lump sum, a bag of money that boards can spend as they see fit. The choices for the new year are mapped out every autumn in the budgets of the institutions.

The key question is: what exactly are those main features? Politics in The Hague has left that open. Because, according to the idea, in such a large and varied sector, it is best for institutions to fill this in themselves. But the concept of main lines also raises many questions. That is why the Platform of Works Councils in MBO, together with student organization JOB and the MBO council, launched a 'guide' drawn up.
De AOb argues in favor of establishing nationally on which main points works councils should in any case be able to claim the right of consent. “We have a lot of contact with works councils and we notice that they are treated differently. But we also hear that there is a need for clarity," said daily director Tamar van Gelder.
