More interest in part-time teacher training courses
Compared to last year, there are more prospective students who have registered with one of the teacher training colleges to become a primary school teacher for the coming academic year 2019/2020. The number of registrations is 7 percent higher than last year. The growth can be attributed to registrations for part-time courses.

This is evident from figures from the Education Executive Agency, provided by the Association of Universities of Applied Sciences.
At the end of June, a total of 8668 young people were registered at one of the teacher training colleges. At around the same time last year, 8131 young people envisioned a study at the teacher training college. This concerns the provisional interest in a teacher training course, but the final intake figures are not yet final.
Part-time courses
The growth is in part-time courses and side entrants, according to Arie Vonk, project leader at 10voordeleraar, a national collaboration within teacher training programs. For the coming academic year, there are 22 percent more students than last year who want to start a part-time program. In June, the counter stood at 2052 registrations for the part-time course.
Stabilization
According to Vonk, interest in regular full-time courses is stabilizing. The number of registrations remained virtually the same as last year. “In 2014, when the admission tests were introduced at the PABO, the number of registrations fell sharply. In the meantime, this influx has picked up again. This year we see a stabilization of enrollment in full-time courses and an increase in part-time courses. They have become attractive to many students. In the past, the main track was mainly full-time courses and part-time courses were somewhat hidden away. More attention has been paid to this, teacher training colleges are jointly responding to this.
Last year, however, there was a significant increase in the number of registrations for the full-time teacher training program.
