Teachers closed schools en masse
The vast majority of schools are closed today, teachers and support staff have stopped working en masse. While parents may find it more difficult to find shelter for their children, they stand by the teachers' demands. A fair salary and a lower workload.

The PO front - the partnership of AOb, AVS, CNV Education, FNV Education and Research, FvOv, PO in Action and PO Council - therefore asks Minister Slob to offer perspective on a solution to the problems.
Progress has certainly been made prior to and with the coalition agreement. For a fair salary, a first step of 270 million euros and 430 million euros was taken at the end of the cabinet period to reduce the workload.
Inadequate
The parties from the PO front consider that insufficient. The money for the reduction of workload comes too late, the amount for improving salaries is too low. There is no perspective on real solutions. The teacher shortage is already making itself felt, without the requested measures it will only get worse. Classes are already regularly sent home, but this will only get worse in the coming year.
De AOb asks Minister Slob together with the other educational organizations from the PO front to meet their requirements, for example by:
- Bringing forward the amounts to relieve the workload
- After the first step, a more extensive perspective on salary improvement, to a level comparable to that of secondary education
Trade unions, school leaders and school administrators are therefore asking Minister Slob to make the resources for reducing the workload available to schools earlier than 2021. He will receive the proposals for this that he has requested from the primary education front in the short term. With regard to the salary improvement, the participants on the primary education front understand that this cannot be achieved in one day, but they want the cabinet to express the principle that the two education sectors must be paid comparable and to implement this in a Delta Plan.
Great willingness to take action
According to the primary education front, the great willingness to take action shows that teachers in primary education do not shy away from a long-term action process. If the demands of the PO front are not met, regional actions will follow in 2018, whereby new strikes are not ruled out.
