Leiden and Maastricht will scrap physical education until the summer
Leiden University and Maastricht University are scrapping all physical education for the rest of this academic year. Other universities and colleges also take this into account.

The two universities are anticipating new measures to curb the corona virus. In principle, universities and university colleges will no longer provide education in their buildings until April 6, but it could also take longer.
Leiden and Maastricht will keep a close eye on things: should it be possible for students and teachers to reunite after 1 May, for example, practical and skills training can resume. Students may then also be able to take tests in a room with invigilators.

The Association of Universities of Applied Sciences has not yet heard of a higher vocational education institution that will switch entirely to online education for the rest of the academic year, but it could happen of course, says a spokesman.

The other universities are also taking this scenario into account, so the decision of Maastricht and Leiden may be followed. “I see everyone striving for continuity in uncertain times,” says spokesperson Bart Pierik of the VSNU university association.
That was indeed the consideration of Leiden, says a spokesman. It is wise not to change education a few times within a few weeks. "Then you unnecessarily burden students and teachers with the changes," says the spokesperson, "and we don't want that."
