De AOb and the other education unions are calling for a nationwide strike. The teacher and school leader shortage is so great that classes are sent home every day. Today it was even announced that a school in Amsterdam would have to close permanently. The teacher shortage is also increasing in secondary education.

"Students fall short if they don't get the attention they deserve," says AObchairman Liesbeth Verheggen. “We really need a lot more colleagues. And to achieve that, the work must become attractive again. ”
Emergency package
Just before the summer, the unions and employers already demanded an emergency kit more than 420 million euros for primary and secondary education. That was a first step towards a broad investment in education as a whole, including MBO and higher education. However, during the general political considerations it became clear that this cabinet does not want to invest in education.

“To send a clear signal to politicians, we will demonstrate on 6 November, when the education budget will be discussed in the Lower House,” says Verheggen. This is the last chance this year to raise extra money for education. “It's on or under, and ninety percent of our members indicates that he wants to strike. Let's stop working en masse to ensure that education and students get what they deserve. Before more schools have to close. ”
Also the General Association of School Leaders calls on its members to strike. And the employers' organizations PO Council en VO council let them know that they understand the purpose of the action.
