The Chamber agrees to a baseline measurement of student stress
Students would suffer a lot from stress, burnout and depression, but how big is the problem exactly? GroenLinks wants it to be investigated and the House of Representatives agrees.
A motion GroenLinks received support in the House this afternoon. This means that there will be a large-scale quantitative study: exactly how many students will be affected? “We don't have a clear view of that now,” says Member of Parliament Zihni Özdil, who submitted the motion.
“All kinds of smaller studies show that more students suffer from psychological complaints, but the total picture, a national baseline measurement, is missing. Education minister Ingrid van Engelshoven says she doesn't need it, but students do. ”
The minister determines when and by whom the investigation will be carried out. Özdil can imagine that the quantitative baseline measurement will be included in the current research of the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment.
