Legal advice: Training for supporters
In the latest collective labor agreement for secondary education, the training budget for educational support staff has been aligned with that of teachers.

Since June this year, educational support staff have received 600 euros and 40 clock hours per year for following courses. The training must be 'free choice'. It is not the employer who determines in which the employee is trained; the supporter chooses himself. This does not mean that the training is optional. The support worker must be able to justify to his manager what he has spent the 40 hours on.

In addition, it has been agreed that employers will facilitate a personal professionalization plan at least once every three years. Such a plan is a set of agreements with the aim of further development of the support worker. During the performance interview, for example, the support worker and his manager can make agreements about courses, training, participation in conferences or literature studies - it can also be decided to conduct this interview at another time.

The training or development agreements are laid down in an agreement, which also describes the costs and time investment and how the employer contributes to this. If the employee does not spend his 600 euros for a year, the amount will in principle lapse. “Unless, for example, the employee agrees that he will use the budget of three years for more expensive training,” says AOb- Chief driver Henrik de Moel. Whether such an agreement is reached depends on the goodwill of the employer.
Coach
Supporters can also use their training budget for coaching. It is often wrongly thought that a visit to a career counselor is something for people who are stuck, while a coach can actually help to avoid getting stuck.
