Hoenderloo College will remain open longer
The Hoenderloo College, the education branch of the Pluryn care institution, will not close on 1 August next, as the board intended, but no later than a year later. “This gives employees more air to look for another job,” says AObdistrict manager Clazien Rodenburg.

Last February protested the employees of the school group are already opposed to the intended closure, which would stand in the way of agreeing a good social plan. Pluryn, the provider of a number of boarding schools for youth care in the region, wants to get rid of the school and the boarding schools, due to heavy financial losses.

Under pressure from the AOb and the participation council (mr) has decided not to close the school all at once. In a letter to the mr and the unions, Karel Verweij, chairman of the board of directors of Pluryn, announced this. 'The closure of the Hoenderloo College will take place no later than August 1, 2021 or earlier than necessary and possible,' Verweij writes. According to Pluryn, the decision offers teaching staff 'a significantly better perspective'.

Rodenburg: “The school will remain open longer for about thirty students and for 14 FTEs of employees.” With this solution, education is guaranteed for the students for whom there was no plan yet. These are autistic pupils (ASD spectrum) who need specific care. Many of these students have already found another place because the boarding schools are closing, but that is not yet the case for everyone. This may take longer for some students. “This is better for everyone, because why should teachers be at home and students cannot go to school,” says Rodenburg. “That is not a solution. In addition, teachers are now unable to look at other schools for jobs because of the corona virus.”

According to Rodenburg, the postponement is also beneficial for funding. This is based on the student numbers for this year, the year that there were still two hundred students at Hoenderloo College. "In the event of shrinkage, this funding always provides an advantage and a little financial scope that we could use for the social plan."
