“You can compare the atmosphere with the first day at school. Children are very good today, ”says Ellen Scholten, group 7 teacher at the Krugerstee primary school in Vaassen. On the Krugerstee there was only one parent who came to bring her child this morning, which is not expected until tomorrow. “I think that's a good score for XNUMX students. It is actually clear to all parents in which group their child is and what the rules are. That one parent who had misunderstood it, also has Dutch as a second language, so I can imagine that it is difficult to follow what is expected of you, ”says Scholten.

“It's a strange sensation. The groups are small, there are few children, and the school is quiet. ” This is how Benjamin Baars, teaching assistant and ICT coordinator of a primary school of Scholengroep Veluwezoom, describes this morning. We keep an eye on whether parents really do not go into the square and whether they respect the meter and a half. I had to guide two or three parents to another entrance. ”

The students of group 7/8 of primary school Effen found their classroom completely different this morning. “The tables are wider apart, we are now all separate and the instruction table that is normally in the middle of the classroom has been moved,” says Rutger. All the rules are crystal clear to him and his classmates, if only because they took a quiz this morning about washing hands and what to do and what not to do. Still, teacher Bas van den Broek says that some pupils have already been within his five-foot circle. “Someone indicates something, but comes a little too close, it cannot be prevented,” says Van den Broek. "We have agreed: we will stick to it as much as possible, but we are not going to spastic either."
Clean door handles
Teaching assistant Baars, like many colleagues and pupils, was eager to start again this morning. "I am happy to see the children and my colleagues again." The school of Baars has chosen for continuity to split the classes in two and the days as well. The students all go to school for half a day every day. “We have just cleaned all the door handles for the second shift. As staff, we have agreed to all go home as soon as possible after that shift. To continue working from home where possible. ”

But there is the unique situation that all students go to school at the same time, five days a week. “We are a very small school in a hamlet near Breda,” explains teacher Van den Broek. “Our school has only sixty students. Classes consist of an average of fifteen students, the school has many entrances and exits: it is possible for us to open completely and at the same time adhere to the RIVM guidelines. ” So an exception has been made for this school, much to the relief of the teachers. “We have always had a good picture of our students, but you notice that everyone was a bit tired at some point. It is now time to look at school to see what the impact of this period has been. ” Despite the lockdown, Van den Broek had already started with the farewell musical of group 8. “I can't wait to really start rehearsing this afternoon.
