Formation puzzles close to the south of the Netherlands
The school year started this week for students in the south of the Netherlands. Schools were able to complete the formation in the nick of time. “I thought it was done, but then there was a cancellation just before the summer holidays,” says Berry van de Wetering, director of the Octopus child center in Boekel.
Just before the summer holidays, the message to all parents with the new class layout for this school year from director Van de Wetering had just been sent. “I could immediately withdraw that message, because after that an employee quit his job,” says the director. He pushed the formation puzzle three times and noticed that colleagues within his school foundation often continued to tinker with the formation. "That is not very relaxed."
No ib'er
At the start of the school year, there is a teacher in each group at Kindcentrum Octopus. “But”, says Van de Wetering, “we are still looking hard for an internal supervisor for the substructure. We were no longer able to start that application procedure just before the summer holidays. So that's what we're doing these weeks. We looked at our other internal counselor sweetly and asked to work a few more hours. ”
Continuous process
The school group Protestant-Christian Primary Education (PCPO) Midden-Brabant, with ten primary schools, is also tight everywhere. “We have completed the structural staffing, but are already looking for someone to replace maternity leave. The formation has become a continuous process. You used to work on it in one month and then everyone got to work ”, says Arnoud Wever, director of PCPO.
The formation has become a continuous process
Wever notices that now is the time for many people to change jobs. “Teaching staff are offered jobs continuously. That is certainly interesting for people who have travel time. ” Wever is particularly concerned about the replacements during illness. PCPO works together with Leswerk, a replacement pool. On the website states that teacher training students from the third and fourth years may also fill in. “That is an emergency, because they are not certified,” admits Wever.
Retirement
Although the formation is close to completion, Van de Wetering of the child center is already afraid for the people who will retire in the coming years. He is not alone in this. Other large school boards from Brabant issued a warning last weekend BN the Voice for the pension wave that is coming and those boards sometimes managed to complete the formation just in the nick of time.
PCPO Midden-Brabant and Kindcentrum Octopus try to be attractive to new employees. For example, PCPO focuses on training and there is money for a personal coach. Wever: “That is more preventive to work on health. Everyone was offered this and it was used a lot. ” At Van de Wetering's school they pay for the gym training of teachers who come from the teacher training college.
Banner
From today, the action banner will be hanging at Kindcentrum Octopus : #Teacher Wanted. The action of the AOb together with other educational organizations to draw attention to the teacher shortage and more investment in education that started this week. Van de Wetering: “When I started eight years ago, the shortages were not an issue at all. Now we sometimes send classes home or educators have to take care of classes. That is pasting and different than I would like. ”
