The Senate approves the teacher's register
The teacher register will be finalized. All teachers will be enrolled from August 1, 2018. Today the Senate approved the bill.
Last week during the debate in the Senate it became clear that there was probably a majority in favor of the bill. This afternoon the groups voted of the VVD, PvdA, CDA, GroenLinks, 50PLUS, PVV and OSF (a collaboration of provincial parties). D66 and the SP rejected the bill.
State Secretary for Education Sander Dekker is pleased that the law has been passed. “Teachers work in an environment where development and growth are key,” he says on the OCW website. "But there is not always room for their own development. That is why I am glad that this law has been adopted by the House."
Delay
Dekker decided last week in the Senate to postpone the teachers' register by one year to August 1, 2018, he said. This was under pressure from the PvdA, CDA and GroenLinks who had concerns about feasibility.
The Education Cooperative writes in a press release that keeping track of all professionalization activities will only start from August 2019.
Many parties were concerned about the support base, but were in favor of the law. Dekker said that support needs to grow.
Emancipation
De AOb has always been in favor of the bill. In Education magazine 19 of 2016 said AObchairman Liesbeth Verheggen that this law makes teachers responsible for their profession and development again. ' The law is according to AObdirector Tamar van Gelder a first step in the emancipation of the profession.
