Compensation for missed unemployment benefits
De AOb together with other unions, has ensured that the calculation of the daily wage has been repaired as of December 1, 2016. The daily wage determines how high the unemployment benefit is if you become unemployed. After a major change in 2015, flex workers, starters and sick people were disadvantaged. They receive a one-off compensation.
Before the change, the UWV took into account people who were sick and who therefore did not receive a full wage in the year before they became unemployed. Or they had not worked every day of the year, because they are a starter or flex worker. “An exception was made for that,” says AObpolicy officer Anissa Khattabi.
Main rule for everyone
After the change, the UWV no longer did this. “The main rule for calculating the daily wage became: the wage divided by 261 days. This rule applied to everyone. ” Dividing by 261 days was disadvantageous for starters and flex workers who were not paid all months. They received a lower unemployment benefit. For people who were ill before their unemployment, the UWV assumed 70 percent of the wages, while they did not do that before the change.
The unions were angry about this. That is why Minister Lodewijk Asscher of Social Affairs repaired the daily wage as of December 1, 2016. For flex workers and starters, only the days on which they worked count in the calculation. Khattabi: "This is even better than before the change." For the sick, the year before the first day of illness is considered. The wages are often higher.
One-time compensation
Before you became unemployed, did you receive a lower salary between 1 July 2015 and 1 December 2016 due to illness or because you were not paid in all months? Then you will receive a one-off compensation from 1 April 2017.
Khattabi: “The AOb just didn't think this repair was enough. ” The repair for the sick group only applies to people who have been ill for two years and then enter unemployment benefits because they are not eligible for WIA benefit. Khattabi: “We have members who have been sick for a shorter period of time. For example, fifteen months, then go back to work and still become unemployed due to something other than illness. The AOb wanted Asscher to count the repairs for these people. That will probably happen. There is a draft decision stating that these people will also be repaired as of 1 March 2018. ”
