Coba van der Veer represents HBO in the main board
Pabo teacher Coba van der Veer was elected as the new chief executive on Friday. She represents higher professional education on the board of the AOb.

Van der Veer has worked for nineteen years as a teacher of Dutch and culture subjects at the teacher training college in Ede. Before that, she worked in senior secondary vocational education and secondary vocational education. Within the AOb she has already held several positions since 2018. She started as a sector consultant, then was secretary of the sector council in higher professional education and last year devoted herself to association training.
“I believe in the AOb as a professional organisation,” said Van der Veer earlier when she was a candidate for the position. “With a good collective labor agreement, an excellent Education magazine and with information and legal support for members, we contribute to the quality of education. But also by discussing educational themes. The new strategy note and education motivate me - in the main board - to get to work and to make the transition in the organization.”
Van der Veer will succeed Auke van Nie in the main board from August 1, 2022.
What does a AOb-main driver?
The AObThe board of directors consists of twenty people in total. Five of them, the daily management, are in paid employment. The other fifteen chief executives are unsalaried and come from different regions and education sectors. They work a maximum of two days before the AOb besides work at school. Chief executives provide direction and leadership to the AOb and think along about terms of employment and education policy. They also monitor the union's progress. Board members must be well informed about what is going on in education, be strategically oriented and have knowledge of educational content.
