Unions meeting about Dollard College unrest
De AOb will hold a meeting tomorrow afternoon together with CNV and FvOv at Dollard College in Winschoten. The union is receiving signals about unrest in secondary schools. “It is now time for a meeting to identify the various concerns and see what we can do,” says AObdistrict manager Marja de Bree.

Last week, the concerned unions sent a letter to their members. 'The core of the unrest seems to be the lack of a stable situation that is necessary to be able to provide good education', says the letter.
"There has been unrest for some time," light AObdistrict manager De Bree. She followed discussions via the participation council. For example, staff are concerned about temporary contracts that are constantly being terminated and the impact this has on the continuity of education, explains De Bree. There are also questions about the percentage of income that goes to the supraschool board and how the shrinkage is being dealt with.
Turning the tide
'A substantive discussion about education and the conditions that are necessary to realize good education is being missed', the unions write in their letter. 'Colleagues have indicated to us that they want to express their concerns collectively in order to turn the tide.'
De Bree: “We are therefore holding a members' consultation tomorrow, where we will ask those present what is bothering them. This can differ per school location. Then we will look at how we can change this. We have ideas, but don't wait until tomorrow. ”
Invitation
The Dollard College is aware of the concerns among the staff, spokesperson Trijnie van Wijk said. "We have had discussions with teachers, the participation council and have already taken measures. But not everything can be done at once." For example, reducing the workload is a subject for which there is not yet a ready-made solution. However, the Dollard College is in talks with other boards to cooperate and to absorb the shrinkage as well as possible. "We keep the staff informed about that, but it's always something uncertain."
Van Wijk says that the school board has decided to invite the unions for a meeting in the short term. "We want to invite them before the summer holidays."
The meeting will be tomorrow on 10 July 2018 at the Dollard College, location Hommesplein 2 in Winschoten for members of the AOb, CNV and FvOv.
