Large demonstration in Rotterdam on September 12
Primary education in South Holland and Zeeland will cease on Wednesday 12 September. There is a large demonstration in Rotterdam, registration points in Zeeland and South Holland. With the strike in South Holland and Zeeland, the PO front closes the relay strikes throughout the Netherlands. AObboard member Eugenie Stolk: “A week before Prinsjesdag, we want to make it clear that the cabinet really needs to step up with investments in primary education. Yes, something has been done about the workload. Yes, money has been made available for salary improvement, but the salary gap with secondary education has not yet been closed. If we want to solve the teacher shortage, the profession really has to become more attractive. ”
Schools can only succeed with art and flying work to get enough people for all classes at the start of the school year. Substitutes cannot be found. “Forecasts from the ministry itself show that the teacher shortage will only increase in the coming years and will be felt across the country. That has to be done differently ”, says Stolk.
That is why we call on all school teams in South Holland and Zeeland to stop working on Wednesday 12 September. Come to Rotterdam for the big demonstration, or to one of the registration points in Zeeland and South Holland.

Closing event
The presenter of the program at the closing event is actor Quintis Ristie. On stage, strikers will have their say, and of course the chairpersons of the organizations of the PO front. Before and after there is music. In order not to overload public transport, we ask you not to leave all at once afterwards. Via metro stop Dijkzigt, every station can be reached again with or without transfer. Going into town with your team or a visit to the Museum Park is of course also recommended. After all, Rotterdam is a nice city!
Come with public transport!
Strikers from outside the Rotterdam region can best come to Wilhelminaplein by train and metro. From Rotterdam Central, lines D and E run to Wilhelminaplein. Line E also runs directly from the region of The Hague to the starting point of the demonstration. You can find all metro lines via the RET website.
In the Rotterdam region, we ask everyone to come to the city by local public transport, or possibly by bicycle. There is no parking facility on the square itself. It is not allowed to bring bicycles with you during the demonstration.
Register
You can register digitally, in Rotterdam at or at one of the registration locations. The easiest is digital via: www.aob.nl / ikstaak, the form can only be reached on that day until 23.59:XNUMX pm.
If you go to Rotterdam and do not register digitally, you can hand in your strike call at the closing event in Het Park at the end of the demonstration. If you want to make use of the transport allowance of 5 euros, you must in any case hand in the form in Rotterdam or at one of the registration locations. The locations are:

Fees
Members of the AOb receive a transport allowance of 5 euros if they come to Rotterdam or one of the registration points in Zuid-Holland or Zeeland and hand in their strike notice.
As a member of the AOb you are entitled to a strike payment if your board has actually withheld wages. This strike benefit amounts to 62 euros for a whole day and is tax-free. If you work fewer hours on September 12, you will be paid in proportion to the working time. You can find the form for this later via this link back on the AOb-website. You must complete this form before March 12, 2019 for the reimbursement.

Rules and tips during the demonstration
- Bring water and food. There is no catering provided by the organization at the Wilhelminaplein and in Het Park.
- Toilets are located at the event area on the Kievitsweide in Het Park. There are no possibilities to visit the toilet on the Wilhelminaplein or on the road. There are no toilets in the metro stations. In other words: arrive with an empty bladder at the starting point of the demonstration.
- Do not wear blue or white vests over clothes: these colors are worn by the volunteers who accompany the procession.
- Follow the instructions of the police and the order service for a smooth running of the tour, they may temporarily stop the procession due to crowds, accidents or emergency services that have to go to an emergency in the demonstration area.
- First aiders walk or cycle along. Give them space if they are needed somewhere to help people.
- Do not bring your own bicycles in the demonstration: that stops enormously and is inconvenient for the people around it.
- Banners are allowed, but they cannot be higher than one and a half meters. Only flexible PVC pipes or thin slats should be used to hold the banners up. Banners with thick sticks can be confiscated by the police.
- Before or after the demonstration, walk through the city as a 'citizen'. Walking in 'parades' with banners is considered an illegal demonstration. You can be fined for that.
