Job guarantee for North Holland Pabo student
Students who start the primary education teacher training course at the iPabo next school year and graduate within five years do not have to worry that they will not find a job afterwards. Six school boards in Noord-Holland guarantee these students that they can start immediately. The teacher training college and the boards hope to attract more students to solve the teacher shortage.
The six school boards that are now participating have about a hundred different primary schools throughout North Holland. “School boards are always allowed to join,” says Titia Bredée, president of the iPabo university of applied sciences. “I am especially happy that there are different school boards, such as an Islamic school board. Each board has different emphases, which is interesting for students. ”
Calculation
Rien Spies, director of Agora school board with 25 primary schools, is not worried about the job guarantee. “It's a math problem,” says Spies. “We are already noticing shortages in Zaanstad. I can classify everyone, but if a teacher becomes pregnant, I am already at a loss. When I look at the intake at the teacher training college, I think I can use everyone. ”
The PABO and the school boards work together to train the PABO students. Together they draw up the quality requirements. Spies: “Quality is important. We do not compromise on that. With this process it is a joint responsibility. But it is all right, because the teacher training college already sets high intake requirements. " The supervision and assessment of students takes place in close consultation between school boards and teacher training college. Graduates are also supervised when they are just in front of the class as a starter.
Doubters
Bredée says that with this initiative she hopes to appeal to a wide group to choose the teaching profession. “We hope that students who have doubts between pedagogy and primary education teacher will be more likely to opt for the teacher training college with a job ahead. Or that students know because of the job guarantee that they can repay their student loan and therefore want to become teachers. ”
