AObchairman Liesbeth Verheggen is stepping down
AObchairman Liesbeth Verheggen is stepping down as chairman of de Algemene Onderwijsbond. She announced this in a statement today. She calls signing the covenant and calling off the strike 'a wrong choice'.
"The decision regarding the covenant should not have been taken with steam and boiling water on a Friday afternoon," writes Verheggen. 'This period was too short to call off a strike in which so much dissatisfaction about the many years of accumulated teacher shortage and the high workload had to be expressed.'
According to Verheggen, the teacher shortage is a major social problem that everyone involved will have to keep fighting against in the coming years. 'I remain hopeful for the future of education, for all my colleagues in education and all pupils and students.'
