AOb about cartoon affair: 'Don't touch our teachers'
“You stay away from our people. Teachers just do their job, and that includes talking about what is happening in society. ” That says AObdirector Henrik de Moel in response to the affair of the threatened teacher at the Emmaus College in Rotterdam.

The teacher was threatened earlier this week for having a cartoon by Joep Bertrams had hung in his classroom. The cartoon, which has been on the bulletin board for years, features a decapitated man in a Charlie Hebdo shirt sticking out his tongue at the jihadist who just decapitated him.

A discussion arose about the print when the French teacher Samuel Paty was commemorated. Paty was beheaded last month by an extremist Muslim for showing cartoons of the prophet Muhammad in a lesson on freedom of speech.
A number of Emmaus College students thought that the cartoon by Joep Bertrams was blasphemy. Then a photo of the drawing appeared on Instagram, and the teacher was threatened online.

The police take the case very seriously and have started a digital investigation to find out the perpetrator or perpetrators. There is now one arrest conducted. The teacher has since gone into hiding, the school maintains close contact with the police and the School & Safety Foundation. "We make every effort to ensure that our school remains a safe place for everyone, so that the students can go to school in peace," the Emmaus College said in a statement.
