American strike successful
The six-day strike of 30 teachers in Los Angeles ended successfully on Tuesday evening. This happened hours after a large majority of teachers and counselors from the local union, United Teachers Los Angeles (ULTA), agreed to an agreement.
The American news sources CNN and the LA Times report this on their websites. "This is a historic day in Los Angeles," said ULTA Chairman Alex Caputo-Pearl. 'After their strike since January 14 our members are now going back to their schools and the students they love.' Five hundred thousand pupils from primary and secondary education, mostly from lower income classes, could not go to school due to the strike.

21 hours to negotiate
The agreement between the union and the Los Angeles district was reached after a 21-hour negotiation session. It includes a 6 percent gradual wage increase, a reduction in class size and the appointment of more teaching assistants in the coming years.
